About Springfield Mulching

High flow tracked carrier running a drum mulching head on Ozarks acreage

Springfield Mulching is a locally owned land clearing outfit working rural ground around Springfield, Missouri. We mulch standing brush and small timber, clear land, pull cedar off glades and pasture, put grazing acres back into grass, open fence lines, prep building lots and driveways, cut trails and food plots on deer property, mow rough fields, and grind stumps. An owner-operator runs the machine. The man who prices your job is the man who sits in the seat on it.

The tool decides the outcome. We run a drum head with carbide teeth on a high-flow tracked carrier. It turns a standing stem into chip without picking anything up off the ground, and wide rubber tracks keep the weight spread thin. A blade has to shove the tree over at the roots, and your topsoil goes along for the ride. One method leaves the dirt where God put it. The other stacks it in a heap at the fence.

Ground here has its own personality. Thin cherty soil sits over limestone across the Springfield Plateau, and where the soil runs out you get glade, rock openings that were grass and wildflower before cedar took them. Fire used to keep cedar penned on the bluffs. It has not for a long while, so cedar owns glade after glade and it keeps walking out into pasture along the fence rows. Taking that cedar off and leaving everything else standing is most of what we do.

Karst is the second thing this plateau hands you. There are sinkholes, caves, and springs out here, and surface water heads underground faster than people expect. So we walk a property before we quote it. We mark what we find, plan the work around it, and tell you what we saw. We are not going to promise you anything over a sinkhole.

We carry Missouri licensing and insurance on every job, and we say no when the answer is no. Big timber belongs to a timber buyer who will pay you. A grubbed pad belongs to an excavator. Rock belongs to nobody. Saying that out loud costs us a job here and there, and it beats billing you for something a mulcher cannot do.
